The Ask

A part of the Young Shits Monthly Competition, the ask was simple: to make something real. Often design students create spec work for real companies, but never see their work published in the real world. As part of the professional category, I wanted to create something to help others in their early career (like me).

The Problem

After going to school for design, I noticed that many programs like mine never taught us how to apply for internships, when we would want to think about internships, what internships were out there, and what potential employers were thinking. Even once we settle into our first full time job, there is even less guidance on how to move up mid-level roles or how to switch industries.

The Game Plan

  • Create a community where students and recent grads can give others like them the advice they wish they had a year prior.
  • Distribution included the creation of a website, record and post an intro to a podcast on major streaming sites, and come up with a little branding.
  • I was slotted to be a mentor at the upcoming Hustle Summit job fair/networking event, and promoted the upcoming first episode.

The Fallout

After launching the podcast, time and resources were scarce. This project always stayed as a concept.
